Prompting for Market Research

Better investor prompts ask AI to organize evidence, identify assumptions, and create questions. Weak prompts ask AI to guess the future.

Useful prompt pattern

Use this structure: role, source boundary, task, output format, risk review, and verification questions.

Example: “Using only the source text below, summarize the company’s revenue drivers, risks, management claims, and unanswered questions. Do not make buy or sell recommendations.”

Prompt types to use

  • Summarize this transcript into key themes.
  • Compare these two companies using only the provided notes.
  • List the assumptions that would need to be true.
  • Identify claims that need source verification.

4AIWorld perspective

Good prompts keep AI inside a research role. The more specific the source boundary, the more useful the output becomes.
