Creative AI Review Process
Review Is What Makes Creative AI Safe to Use
A creative AI review process is the set of steps your agency uses to verify that AI-assisted work is accurate, on-brand, legally clean, and client-approved before it goes out the door. Without a defined review process, AI-generated copy, campaign concepts, revision summaries, and brief documents can carry unverified claims, brand misalignments, scope creep, or IP risk into client deliverables — often without anyone noticing until after the work has shipped.
Review Gates by Output Type
Different creative output types require different review gates. Client-facing copy requires claims verification and brand voice review before approval. Campaign concepts require scope alignment and budget confirmation before presentation. AI-assisted revision summaries require the account lead to verify that the action items accurately reflect what the client requested — not what the AI inferred. Brief documents require review by the creative director to confirm the AI has not introduced constraints or objectives that were not in the original client input.
Assign a named reviewer for each output type. Review responsibility that is assumed rather than assigned tends to be skipped under deadline pressure — which is exactly when AI errors are most likely to reach clients.
The Pre-Flight Check Before Client Delivery
Before any AI-assisted work reaches a client, run a pre-flight check that covers: has every factual claim been verified against source material; has the brand voice and visual language been checked against the approved guidelines; has the copy been reviewed for absolute claims, regulated language, and unverified product statements; and has the account lead confirmed the scope and timeline are aligned with what was agreed. This pre-flight check is the last line of defense before AI-assisted work becomes a client deliverable.
Document Your Review Steps
Record who reviewed each AI-assisted output, what changes were made during review, and when the final version was approved for delivery. This creates a traceable record that supports client disputes, internal audits, and billing discussions — and reinforces the principle that AI supports your creative workflow, not the other way around.
