When you encounter something unfamiliar at work — a system, a process, a piece of jargon, a type of report — AI can explain it in plain language faster than searching documentation or waiting to ask a colleague. A concept explanation prompt names the topic, your starting level of familiarity, and any related context you already have. When you use AI to help with a real deliverable and pay attention to why the output is structured the way it is, you learn from the work itself. Ask AI to explain its choices: why it organized a summary a certain way, or what would change if the audience were different. Building that explanatory layer into your regular AI use turns everyday work into a continuous learning practice.
Example in Practice: A Two-Week Spreadsheet Plan
The prompt: “I am an office coordinator who can do basic spreadsheet data entry but not formulas. I have 20 minutes a day for two weeks. Build me a day-by-day plan to learn the ten formulas most useful for office reporting — lookups, sums by condition, percentage change — with one small practice exercise per day using fake office data I can type in myself.”
